About a year ago I started collecting data on Antique Rototillers in the hands of collectors and users of these older machines. I have 17 or so rototillers myself, over half are runable, and a few are parts machines. This was a "primary survey" for a Marketing course I was taking at college at night. I have also used this database and spreadsheet in two other courses I've taken since. In fact this newsletter is being used as part of a class project. Until I started my website the only rototiller collector I found on the Internet was Michiel Hooijberg of the Netherlands at http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/M.Hooijberg/index.html if you can check out his website and mine of course. I had a small write up in the Troy-Bilt T-Bon newsletter in the Spring 1995 issue that I received a nice response too. I'm trying to collect and compile the history of The Rototiller in America; this will take some time and effort on my part. But the information that I have gotten from the collectors around the world has been a great foundation. I have started a Rototiller Registry of Collectors and their machines, from this registry I formed two lists, the ones I can e-mail and those that I use the regular mail system to contact. Right now there is 72 people on the E-mail list and 9 on the Regular Mail list. The countries represented are Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.S.A. How do you get on this list, or how did you get on it. Simple, anyone who had contacted me either from the survey or from my website gets put on it. As long as the Regular Mail list is small I'll foot the bill for postage and printing. | The computer crowd will get an E-mail with a link to my web-site page with the newsletter posted there instead of an 'attachment'. The newsletter will then be available to everyone who can access the Internet. We'll deal with the regular mailing list when it gets too large. I'm still looking for copies of original sales receipts with serial numbers to help establish a serial number to year made list for all brands, especially Graham-Paige, Frazer, Simars and Ariens. Sandy Londo of Ariens Co., Marketing Services Manager responded to a letter I mailed to Mr. Dan Ariens, President of Ariens. She has arranged for some material on their older machines to be copied and mailed to me. Keep in touch, this is the first of many newsletters I hope. Donald A.
